also got chills when working on the new album and how
the new songs make him feel?
“They make me feel very proud,” he replies. “I do think
this is our best work yet – and I know a lot of people prob-
ably say that about whatever new stuff is coming out for
them, but I just think it’s a great balance of artistic integrity
and commercial appeal. Like you’re saying about chills, we
tend to have that be a practice in our songwriting and ask
ourselves, ‘Is this doing it for us yet? Is this giving me
chills? Is this making the hairs stand up on the back of my
neck? Can I lose myself in the music and really feel every
lyric? Is it as good as it can get?’ And I think it’s pretty damn
good. I’m excited for everyone to hear and feel all of it.”
We definitely felt those chills when we listened to ‘Car-
