strangers, but that could not be further from the
truth. Fresh from sound checking for their biggest
UK headline show to date, and with a crowd of pas-
sionate fans already assembling at the door, the
trio briskly make their way to the table their man-
agement have kindly set up for us, excitedly intro-
ducing themselves with a gentle handshake and
huge smiles. It is clear that they are thoroughly en-
joying their present lot in life and are eager to make
the very most of it.
any, the lead vocalist and guitarist, is, at
D24 years old, the oldest of the siblings.
Pau, the drummer, is 22, while Ale, the bassist, and
piano player when required, is 19. The band’s
debut full-length album, 'XXI Century Blood', came
out in 2017, while, prior to that, their debut EP, 'Es-
cape The Mind', was released back in 2015, nearly
10 years ago. Their new album, 'Keep Me Fed', is
their fourth studio album. And so, you realise these
young ladies are actually already veterans of their
craft and the position they presently find them-
selves in is not one which has been afforded to
them by luck or good timing, but is the result of
nearly a decade of hard work. And the effort is now
paying off. Immensely.
Tonight is proof of that. The last time they
played in London was less than 12 months ago,
shortly after attracting a bumper crowd and, no
doubt, winning even more fans as the opening act
on the second stage of day two of the 20th annual
Download Festival, when they headlined Isling-
ton's O2 Academy. A month before that, they
played Bush Hall in London, a modest
venue with a capacity of 400. A few
weeks later, when the venue was twice
the size, and now, less than one year
later, they have sold out the Kentish
Town Forum, with a capacity of
2,400. It's an achievement not lost
on the girls and, despite their in-
credible results, within just sec-
onds of being in their presence,
their humbleness is clear to see.
There are no egos, no hint of arrogance,
that many rock stars in their position would dis-
play. They truly are a pleasure to be in the com-
pany of.
oundcheck has overrun a little later than in-
Stended and they have a meet and greet to
attend to, so we dive straight in by raising 'Qué Más
Quieres', one of the singles released from ‘Keep
Me Fed’, and a song whose name translates to
‘What else do you want?’ - which seems a nice
place to start. We ask the trio what they want and
hope to achieve from the record and whether they
believe it is what their fans want as well.
Dany takes the lead with a smile. "Well, it's def-
initely what we want," she tells us, "’cause we've
spent so much time on this album and carefully
creating it. Even though it's been very chaotic, as
we spent last year touring on and off, we've been
hitting the studio and creating all these songs and
we've released kinda half of it already in singles,
and we've had such a good reception at the live
shows and online as well. We're so excited for
'Keep Me Fed' to be completely out there and see
how it lives."
From the opposite side of the table, Ale tells
Black Velvet, "I want it to be the next step in our
career. It is definitely a new era, and I feel like we
challenged ourselves with so many things during
this album. Like the songwriting, just the situations
we were in when we were recording it, we were all
over the place. And, musically, it's different. I just
hope it marks a really big step forward in our ca-
reers, both technically and career-wise."
We ask if it is important to be realistic about the
things you want and whether people become too
