ttention Attention’ - This is the name of the album that the world needs to hear
‘Aright now. The band behind it is Shinedown. If you listen to their back catalogue
- from 2003’s ‘Leave A Whisper’ through to 2015’s ‘Threat To Survival’ - you’ll hear that
the songs contain some dark lyrics. The more successful the band has become the more
conscious they have been to ensure that they convey a positive message. As Shinedown’s
captivating frontman / songwriter Brent Smith puts it, “Everything that’s good has a lit-
tle bit of bad and everything that’s bad has a little bit of good. Sometimes you shine,
sometimes you’re down. It’s about balance. You may fail, but don’t stop trying; eventu-
ally you’ll win.” With darkness there always comes light and ‘Attention Attention’ takes
you through that journey. We met up with Brent to talk about the making of the album,
an album that will shed even more light on the band. It looks set to change their lives,
as well as rocking yours. Read on to find out why the album was cloaked with so much
secrecy, which song Brent was scared to write and why; and why he is working on trying
to laugh a little harder and smile a bit more.
