Changing Times
Changing Times
here are not many of us
Twho like to talk about
our flaws, or even admit that
we have them, but we all do;
each and every one of us. It is
one of the themes explored on
Saint Asonia’s sophomore
album, ‘Flawed Design’. For
frontman Adam Gontier, the
past few years have been a
learning curve as he worked on
trying to accept his flaws and
become a better version of
himself. The struggles and the
moments of reflection were
poured into the songs, result-
ing in an album that drips with
emotion.
Why did having the band
temporarily step away from
music allow Adam to gain a
clearer vision of what he
wanted to achieve? What does
Adam consider to be the
biggest human flaw and why
could it be difficult to change
it? Black Velvet discovered the
answers to those questions and
more.
hen Saint Asonia formed in 2015, the
Wband was tagged as a ‘rock super-
group’, thanks to the credentials held by its original
members: frontman Adam Gontier (ex-Three Days
Grace), guitarist Mike Mushok (Staind), bassist
Corey Lowery (Dark New Day) and drummer Rich
Beddoe (ex-Finger Eleven).
The release of their self-titled debut album
was well received by fans and critics alike, chart-
ing in the Top 10 in Canada and at Number 2 on
the Billboard U.S. Rock Albums chart. Their first
live performance took place in May 2015, at the
Rock On The Range Festival in Columbus, Ohio.
A short US headline run followed, before going on
to do shows with Seether, then a European run
with Motley Crue. The following year they stayed
out on the road, playing shows with Disturbed in
Canada as well as joining them on their summer
tour stateside, alongside Breaking Benjamin and
Alter Bridge. Saint Asonia also played major festi-
vals in the US during that time too.
