t’s crazy how some record labels part ways with bands when they’re at their most successful.
ITake Black Stone Cherry, for instance. The band, comprising of Chris Robertson, Ben Wells,
Jon Lawhon and John Fred Young, headlined the second stage at Download Festival in June 2013,
and completed their own headline arena tour in 2014, yet their record label at the time released
them. Why? Who knows, but what we do know is that they’re now back with a storming new album
entitled ‘Kentucky’, on a new label, and are continuing their rise and sounding even better than
before – if that’s possible. Black Velvet caught up with drummer John Fred to chat about old mis-
takes, new habits, positivity and being rescued.
