arlier in the year, we decided to visit Llandudno for a change. When re-
Esearching what to do while we were there, we discovered that Llandudno
was home to The Owls Trust. So, of course, being animal lovers, we made sure
it was on our list of places to visit.
                                                               The Owls Trust, which was
                                                            formerly known as The North
Wales Bird Trust, is based at
                                                            Bodafon Farm Park, which is
                                                            home to many animals. Lo-
                                                            cated on Bodafon Road, Boda-
fon Farm Park has a donkey, pygmy goats, geese and ducks, a horse, cows, pigs, deer and
more. The Owls Trust section is quite a large part of the farm, with many aviaries for the dif-
                ferent species of owls.
At The Owls Trust, you will find Bengal eagle owls, Eurasian Eagle Owls, Western Screech
Owls, Barn Owls, Canadian Great Horned Owls, a White Faced Scops Owl, a Northern Hawk
Owl, a Tawny Owl, Ferruginous Pygmy Owls, Burrowing Owls, a Snowy Owl, an African Wood
Owl and more. One of the more recent additions is a Ural Owl called Orville - as he has a re-
semblance to the TV character. They also have some cute Kookaburras.
The number of different types of owls makes it a very interesting and educational visit.
While we were there, one of The Owls Trust staff members took an owl out from its aviary,
where it perched on his gloved hand, and asked us if we wanted to stroke the owl, telling us
the owl liked it. It was nice to see the owl come out of its enclosure, even if it
didn’t get the chance to fly. They do have a little space in the enclosure for small
                flights.
The Owls Trust rescue injured wild birds of prey and rehabilitate them. They
are involved in the conservation of some of the rarest owl species worldwide.
You can ‘adopt’ an owl on their website, http://www.theowlstrust.org - your adop-
tion helps them to rescue more injured owls, feed the owls, maintain their aviaries
                and rehabilitate the owls.
