It’s Bonfire weekend, and, while many others are standing in the cold and
rain outside in the name of a few fireworks and a large fire (those that weren’t
cancelled due to the bad weather), we’re inside a cozy venue awaiting one of
Britain’s most sizzling new bands – The Hot Damn!
They’re a four-piece comprised of Gill Montgomery, Laurie Buchanan, Josie
O’Toole and Lzi Hayes and the show is the second headliner of their
‘DAMN!DAMN!DAMN!DAMN!’ tour, named after one of their songs, which just
happened to be released a few days earlier.

And, rather like a firework, they open with ‘Fizz
Buzz Crash’, a song that immediately hits the spot,
brightens the night and has you moving and groov-
ing from the moment it begins. This is something that
continues for the whole set, as the girls have a whole
pack of infectious tunes in their catalogue. ‘Dance
Around’ is instantly loveable, with vocalist Gill suc-
ceeding in getting the crowd to repeat ‘I love it’ after
her. “We’ve already written a song about tomorrow
morning’, she tells the crowd before ‘About Last
Night’, which includes a great ‘motherfucker’ section,
and a melodic ‘on and on and on’. We’d happily love
The Hot Damn! to keep playing on and on and on.
Josie keeps a strong beat through ‘Jukebox On The
Radio’, another song that will make you move your
hips and dance to your heart’s content.
