It’s Stitched Up Heart’s first ever UK tour, and it’s well overdue.
After listening to this band online, we were eager to see them in
action. They did not disappoint. With songs like opener ‘This Skin’
and its follow-up ‘Warrior’, the band mix vulnerability with power,
strength with conviction, and passion with empathy. Sounding as
perfect as on disc, albeit with backing tracks added to the mix, the
band have got their show down to a T. ‘Finally Free’ has an ethe-
real aura, frontwoman Mixi frequently climbing onto the riser in
front of her, while whipping her long turquoise hair from side to
side. ‘Lost’, which features Sully Erna on disc, entwines itself
around your heart. Mixi and her bandmates, Merritt Goodwin on
guitar, Randy Mathias on bass, and James Decker on drums,
have worked hard on their craft and it shows. ‘Monster’ is the
definitive set closer with its climactic chorus. If you have ever felt
lost, a Stitched Up Heart show is a great place to be found.
Singing ‘You can’t stop this runaway train’ (in ‘Let It Begin’) is
right on point when it comes to The Treatment. They are in high
gear and you need all your energy to keep up with this rock ‘n’ roll
train. Their infectious classic rock is like fuel for your veins and
their entire set energises. The five-piece keep getting better and
better and although vocalist Tom Rampton has only been a mem-
ber of the band since 2017, he fits in as if he was born to front The
Treatment. ‘Vampress’, ‘Let’s Get Dirty’ and ‘Shake The Mountain’
are fun-time, riff-raising rockers. Ending with ‘Rat Race’, they well
and truly entice us into checking out their upcoming headline run
in April 2022.
Chanting seems to be the name of the game at a Fozzy show.
Minutes before the five-piece come on stage, there are chants of
‘Fozzy, Fozzy, Fozzy’. There are chants again for ‘Fozzy’ after the
band have played the first two numbers, new song ‘Sane’, which
the band released at the end of May 2021, and familiar favourite
‘Drinkin’ With Jesus’. Although the most comical chant is when
frontman Chris Jericho speaks to the audience telling everyone
that the Birmingham show is sold out, making the whole of the UK
tour sold out. ‘You sold out, you sold out,’ the audience respond
to the singer.
