                                                                              The bagpiped intro of ‘Welcome Tae Glasgae’ (the first
                                                                           track from their new album ‘Motorheart’) signals the arrival of
                                                                           The Darkness. The band may not be in Glasgow tonight, but
                                                                           the hard-rocking intro shows they mean business. It’s ‘One
                                                                           Way Ticket’ that really gets the audience to open their vocal
                                                                           cords and sing along though. From their ‘One Way Ticket To
                                                                           Hell… And Back’ album, released in 2005, this is a tune that
                                                                           stands the test of time and has a catchy hook that you can’t
                                                                           resist. With 2003’s ‘Growing On Me’ following it, you’re in rock
                                                                           ‘n’ roll heaven.









































































                                                                        The title track of ‘Motorheart’ brings back the band’s edgier, progres-
                                                                     sive tone, showing that they haven’t rested on their laurels, bringing out
                                                                     something a bit different for rock fans. It’s not as catchy as ‘Growing On
                                                                     Me’ so may take a while to, er, grow on you, although there’s some ster-
                                                                     ling instrumental work, which shows how talented the band are. Matching
                                                                     the heavier sound on the new album, frontman Justin Hawkins has aban-
                                                                     doned his flamboyant catsuits and instead is wearing a plain leather-look
                                                                     waistcoat and trousers.
