Creating An Escape
e’re in Birmingham on a Friday night for a rock show at the
WO2 Academy. For a change, we’re not there for the headline
band, but rather, the four-piece that light up the stage first. The band
has flown over from Atlanta (via mainland Europe) and features Tuk
Smith on vocals, Matt Gabs on lead guitar, Philip Anthony on bass and
Joey O’Brien on drums. That band is Biters. Wearing a black velvet
jacket and playing a Flying V, frontman Tuk looks and sounds the part.
Songs such as ‘Restless Hearts’ are fist-in-the-air rock ‘n’ roll anthems,
while from new album, ‘The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be’, ‘Stone
Cold Love’ is a T.Rex-inspired explosion of glitter and glamour. Our
love for them, however, is not stone cold.
