PUNK ROCK PAMPERING
e’re all about hydration this issue.
WAs we get older, our bodies require
more hydrating. Lately, we’ve noticed our
hair becoming a little drier, and our skin the
same. We’ve found a few products that are
helping, so here we are to spread the word.
Sukin Haircare Hydrating Shampoo
Did you know that most shampoo contains an ingredient called
sodium laureth sulphate? We recently discovered that sulphates can
strip your scalp of its natural protective oils, which can leave hair feeling
dry and brittle, which then, in turn, can cause hair loss. Two of the most
common sulphates to avoid are sodium laureth sulphate and the similar
sodium lauryl sulphate. We, like most people, have been using sham-
poo with these ingredients in for years. It has only been recently that
we discovered that they are not the best for hair. These ingredients are
also in many cleaning products, such as detergents, as they can break
down oil and grease. They’re also used in toothpaste, facial cleaner,
body wash and more. They are the ingredients that causes shampoo
to foam and lather, but, after hearing that it can cause skin irritation,
dries out your hair and skin and more, we decided to go in search of
an SLS-free shampoo instead. Meet Sukin, an Australian brand, that
was born in 2007, and are natural, vegan and cruelty free. They have
a range of products, such as skincare, bodycare and, also, haircare.
We found Sukin in Boots, so purchased their hydrating shampoo, as
well as their volumising shampoo. Trying the hydrating shampoo first,
we’ve been very impressed. Our hair feels much better than it was.
The shampoo is paraben free. We love that it lists everything that it’s
free from on the back of the bottle. It has no petrolatum / mineral oils,
no synthetic fragrances, no animal derivatives, no artificial colours, no
harsh detergents, no propylene glycol, no MEA / DEA / TEA, no ph-
thalates, no triclosan, no sulphates, no parabens, no silicones and no
EDTA. If you want healthy hair, this is the product to get. Shea butter
and coconut help nourish the hair, while repairing its damage. And, de-
spite not having any sulphates in, the shampoo does still lather. Our
hair feels soft, clean and happy. Now that we’ve discovered Sukin, we
won’t be going back to any brands that include sulphates in their in-
gredients.
John Frieda Deep Sea Hydration Hair Mask
While on a mission to find hydrating hair products, we stumbled
across John Frieda’s Deep Sea Hydration range. We were sold by the
Moisturising Hair Mask’s claim of ‘seriously smooth revitalisation and
strengthening to reverse damage in 1 use’. While not as natural and
clean as Sukin (we spotted EDTA in the ingredients, for example), the
seaweed-infused product definitely helped moisturise our hair, and
gave it an added boost. It is silicone free, and vegan-friendly, as well
as being SLS/sulphate-free. This hair mask really is a treat for your
hair and brings it back to life, making it feel, and look, fantastic.
Salcura Bioskin Zeoderm Skin Repair Moisturiser
If you’ve got dry, dehydrated, itchy skin, whether you suffer from
eczema or psoriasis, then Salcura Bioskin’s Zeoderm has been made
for you. It is a lifesaver when it comes to calming irritable skin, nour-
ishing it and protecting it. If restores hard, scaly skin back to smooth,
soft, revitalized and youthful skin. Rich in minerals, omegas and Vita-
min E, zeolite, geranium and castor oil, Zeoderm helps reduce itching.
The moisturiser is not too thick, so it can sink in. Your skin will lap it
up. Salcura’s Bioskin range is free from SLS, parabens, lanolin, syn-
thetic fragrance, microplastics, formaldehyde, nanoparticles, triclosan,
methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone. You can find
Salcura’s Bioskin range at Holland and Barrett. This is one of our top
products for 2024. It works miracles.
