As Amy sits at the piano, she speaks to the crowd. “We’ve been through a lot since we’ve last seen each other. We’ve lost some people. I just
want to say that if there’s one thing that I’ve learned through this really hard time, it’s to appreciate the moment that we’re in. We don’t know what to-
morrow brings, we don’t know that we have tomorrow, but we are here right here, right now, tonight. This is a good night. Thank you for sharing it
with us.” The audience responds with a big cheer. She performs ‘Far From Heaven’ on her own at the start, before her bandmates join in and it is
particularly spine-tingling. Her vocals in the following song, ‘Your Star’, also create goose pimples. There’s a reason Evanescence are still at the top
of their game 27 years into the band’s career. The members may have changed somewhat, but the heartbeat, soul and talent of the band remains.
Amy goes back up to the high riser at the back to appear as a silhouette before images of a mass of black crows fly on the backdrop behind her
before ‘End Of The Dream’, while the 16-song set ends with the always fabulous ‘Bring Me To Life’. And chills again. Tonight, Evanescence were as
dreamy as ever – and it’s one we don’t want to end.
They pass the baton on to Within Temptation, whose set begins with some impressive visual footage on the backdrop of Winston Churchill speak-
ing and graveyard crosses speeding by. As the band arrive on stage, kicking into ‘Our Solemn Hour’, frontwoman Sharon den Adel is wearing a ma-
jestic headpiece. Blasts of fire shoot up into the sky. If you had any doubt as to how Within Temptation would fare following Evanescence you need
not have worried. They definitely went all out with their stage show. The catchier ‘Faster’ picks the pace up and stunning laser-like lighting glides
around, joining the occasional fire blast. ‘Paradise (What About Us?)’ is another melodic, symphonic gem, its beat inspiring the audience to clap
along as Sharon jumps up and down.
