here was an excited cheer last year when The Wildhearts were announced as one

T of the bands on the Britrock Must Be Destroyed bill – a set of shows that high-
lighted a number of British rock bands that achieved success in the 90s. Such was the
success of the tour that Ginger Wildheart, CJ Wildheart, Danny McCormack and Ritch
Battersby reconvened for further Wildhearts UK tours and a new album – their first in

ten years. ‘Renaissance Men’ saw the four-piece back at their best, blessing us with razor-
sharp riffs and high-energy blasts – while at the same time shining the light on mental
health via their song lyrics. With ‘Diagnosis’ being chosen from the album to head a fol-
low-up EP, its lyrics about mental health institutions and how the mental health profes-

sion is letting us down, Black Velvet reached out to Ginger to ask him more on that and
other important subjects such as cyber bullying, character and strength.
