Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! Since Black Velvet 04 BLACK FOXXES
has been online only, we’ve had issues online just before
Christmas every year. It still feels weird to think of it as a 06 KEMURI
‘Christmas issue’ as I was so used to sending the printed 08 ROYAL REPUBLIC
issue away to be printed over Xmas and it not actually
being out until January. But now, every Christmas, the 12 THE AnSWER
issue is online as soon as it’s finished, almost like our 16 SIXX:A.M.
early Christmas gift to you! Sometimes I think I ought to
make it more Christmassy, but Black Velvet is a mag you 20 RED SUn RISInG
can read at any time throughout the year, so I don’t make 24 THE DEAD DAISIES
it festive on purpose.
This issue has some extra-special treats though. 30 POP EVIL
When you read some of the interviews, think of them as 36 BLACK STOnE CHERRY
presents being unwrapped. Some of the musicians open
up to reveal what’s inside a little more. I only just inter- 38 SOIL
viewed The Dead Daisies six months ago, but could not 40 BV CV / SUPERSOnIC...
resist a new interview with them being in Birmingham in
november, and on a Saturday too. So this time we asked 41 ALBUMS
Marco Mendoza to tell us all about his sobriety. He is 44 FAnSITE FOCUS
proud to have been sober for nearly 30 years and loves
talking about it - so we wanted to let him do just that. I 45 COnCERTS
love hearing about people who have changed their lives 63 A MUSICAL nOTE FROM...
around, gotten healthier and overcome demons.
Another interview I was eager to do was a new one
with Sixx:A.M. frontman James Michael, since
Sixx:A.M.’s new ‘Prayers For The Blessed, Vol. 2’ album
just came out. We tried to find out more about what he’s A Bit O’ Twitter
like offstage and not just on. We had a time limit, so sadly
couldn’t ask everything we wanted to, but we asked as
much as we could! Words of Wisdom (or otherwise) from Twitter.
We discuss mental health issues with Mark Holley of
Black Foxxes while SOiL’s Ryan McCombs tells us about John Feldmann (Goldfinger) @JohnFeldy
recovering from a stroke. ‘You are the only one holding yourself back.’
Pop Evil are this issue’s coverstars, as they’re a band
that we finally got to see in the UK and that blew us away. Mark Hoppus (Blink-182) @markhoppus
These guys are killer. We really need some headline ‘I paid $8 for in-flight wifi so I could answer two questions about the
shows from these guys, and hope they’ll return in 2017. English muffin I had for breakfast this morning.’
Y & velvet kisses Cassadee Pope @cassadeepope
‘One of the fun things about being a girl: finding false eyelashes in
the most peculiar places and giggling to yourself.’

Adam Carson (AFI) @AdamCarsonAFI
’Tour manager extraordinaire Smith Puget just asked me to email him
a "V". His broken keyboard requires he cut and paste every "v" he
types.’
Jess Bowen (The Summer Set) @JessBowen
’If anyone saw me jump during the set & mess up, it’s because I con-
fused a stage light for a person I thought was attacking me. Yep, that
happened.’
