04 PUNK ROCK PAMPERING
Welcome to our first issue of Black Velvet since the
pandemic. We ended up taking an extended break and, in 05 ALBUMS
doing so, reflected upon the mag and life in general. 06 DOBERMANN
While the world went into lockdown and many had to stay 08 STITCHED UP HEART
home, unable to work, and while there were no gigs, we
decided to take some time off working on issues of the 10 SKAM
mag. Instead, we did things that we hadn’t done for a long 16 THE DUST CODA
time - or ever! We went out on walks on our days off from 20 WAYWARD SONS
work (luckily, I continued to work my dayjob throughout
lockdown). We watched a lot of YouTube instead of listen- 26 CONCERTS

ing on Black Velvet, as every spare second we had, we
spent listening to music, reviewing albums, writing gig
reviews or researching, as mentioned, for interviews. Oh,
or transcribing those interviews and needing silence
while we made them into articles. So, this was new for us. BV Instagram
We found a life outside of Black Velvet! And, now that

still want to keep doing, to an extent. We want to be able
to do a few other things outside of the mag (and dayjob
work) - so, after pondering things, we’ve decided to have “I’m still gonna be the same
a few less interviews per issue, and maybe take breaks in person when I’m 80 as I am
between issues too. We’ve decided to focus a bit more on now. I still wanna be rocking out
our photography and are including more photos with with my purple hair!”

This issue, to a degree, is a look back at the last few
months of 2021. We have our first show back from lock- Black Velvet Issue 104
down - The Wildhearts, back in September - to our most
recent shows in December.
And, while taking time off, we’ve realised we also
want to include a bit of that time outside of Black Velvet
in the issue too. As we love animals, we’ve decided to
feature one of the farm animal sanctuaries that we visited
in lockdown. We hope you enjoy this.
