05 DEEVER
We’ve made it to issue 100! That equates to 25 years
of Black Velvet. Damn, I’m old. I ask Hoobastank in this 07 A MuSICAL NOTE FROM... MASSIVE
issue, who have been around for almost the same 08 RIVER BECOMES OCEAN
amount of time, whether they are as devoted to the band 10 BETH BLADE & THE BEAuTIFuL DISASTERS
as they were when they first started. You could ask me
the same. The answer would be yes. I don’t know why, 12 THOSE DAMN CROWS
but there’s something about music that I love. There’s 16 zEBRAHEAD
something about concerts that I adore, and there’s some-
thing about taking photos in a photopit that I thrive on. I 24 RYAN ROXIE
still get a buzz when I stumble across an exciting new 28 DEAD GIRLS ACADEMY
band, and I still get excited when I have a brainwave while 32 DIAMANTE
doing interview research and think of an ingenious (or so
I think) question to ask. 38 ADELITAS WAY
This brings me on to this issue. Damn, it was a tough 42 CONTRIBuTOR FOCuS
one. I feel like Mercury was in retrograde way too often 43 SuPERSONIC FuTuRE SuPERSTARS
for way too long. I feel like it was one obstacle after
another. I feel like I questioned was it all worth it? 44 ALBuMS
Three interviews didn’t happen when they should 49 PuNK ROCK PAMPERING
have. One got rescheduled. One will hopefully happen
next issue. The other... maybe I just need to throw my 50 CONCERTS
questions away! The worst thing is when you spend 60 BON jOVI IN AuSTRALIA
nights researching on a band, come up with killer ques- 62 FANSITE FOCuS / EATIN’ AIN’T CHEATIN’
tions - and then the interview doesn’t happen for whatev-
er reason. 63 RIP KEITH FLINT
BuT - doing the interview with zebrahead, at the end
of our interview, when I told Ali it was our 100th issue,
and asked if he had any words of motivation, he said
“You have to not let negative things, when things don’t
work out, affect you. You have to keep going, you have to A Bit O’ Twitter
keep pushing on...” His words came just at the right time,
and it reminded me that we all have to stay strong when Words of Wisdom (or otherwise) from Twitter:
trials and tribulations are put in our way. There’s a great
quote: ‘Obstacles are put in your way to see if what you Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns) @traciiguns
want is really worth fighting for’. Hair Metal Is Not Dead!!!
So, here’s to issue 100 - an issue definitely worth
fighting for. Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper Band) @hurricanenita
Happy #InternationalWomenDay. I am proud every single day to cham-
Y & velvet kisses pion the role of women in the music industry!! It’s not just about being
a girl and playing an instrument- it’s about elevating and encouraging
Shari Black Velvet others, and inspiring the next generation to do what we do!!!
Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory) @XChadballX
Wish the tips of my thumbs would lose weight so I could text bettrr.
Cody Carson (Set It Off) @CodySIO
Be happy in the skin you’re in. You’re going to look back at yourself
when you were unsatisfied with your appearance & say “What was I
thinking?!” We are all way too hard on ourselves. It’s difficult, but look
for the positives & highlight those instead of tearing yourself down.
Chrissy Costanza (Against The Current) @ChrissyCostanza
Support more female artists, most of the time we’re much less creepy,
thank you for coming to my TED talk.
