Awith the majority of us on ‘friend’
sites, dependent on social media, friend-
ships can often be made or broken with a
single ‘like’ or comment. One thing Black
Velvet ‘likes’ is Zebrahead’s new album,
‘Brain Invaders’, which has a friend-con-
scious message. This is a band that
formed in the 90s and, despite seeing a
couple of members leave the ranks, the
main core has stayed strong and united.
Through the years, they have made many
friends along the way and their shows are
like outstretched arms to everyone, full of
fun, always a good time, inviting fans to
become friends and a place like home.

eading up to the album release of ‘Brain Invaders’ on March 8th,
Lthe band picked ‘All My Friends Are Nobodies’ as the opening sin-
gle. The band, which sees Ali Tabatabaee joined by co-vocalist and gui-
tarist Matty Lewis, guitarist Dan Palmer, bassist Ben Osmundson and
drummer Ed Udhus, posted the video for ‘All My Friends Are Nobodies’ on
January 8th, exactly two months before the album release. In the video, a
girl is seen in a cage at one point. The video was produced by Daniel Lind-
ner, who has produced a number of Zebrahead videos in the past. Ali be-
gins by telling us, “I actually didn’t even see the rough cuts or anything until
it was almost done, and when I saw the video I wasn’t sure what to expect.
The way I related to that was, I feel like a lot of people these days are so
dependent on the gratification of the way people post things and the re-
sponse people get from posting, it’s just kind of this addictive thing. For
some reason that’s what I felt it represented. The effect of social media on
people’s lives or the way it puts you in a cage because you’re so dependent
on the response you get from the things that you post on your feeds, and
in a lot of ways, I feel like that is all encompassing for a lot of people and,
in a way, that is kind of putting you in a cage. I asked the director, ‘Is that
what you were kind of going for?’ and he goes, ‘You know, that’s completely
up to you to kind of figure out for yourself. I didn’t want to make it too literal,
but it’s just the fact that there are so many things…’ Insecurities, he said,
for example, is another thing… people feel caged in by their insecurities.”
Ali himself didn’t have an Instagram account until the release of ‘Brain
