BACKYARD BABIES /
HEAVY TIGER /
JUNKSTARS - BERLIN
COLUMBIA HALLE,
06.11.15
After a five-year hiatus,
Backyard Babies have made
their eagerly anticipated en-
trance back onto the stage
after releasing their latest ear
candy ‘Four By Four’. Berlin’s
sold out show is filled to the
seams with fans waiting for
the Swedish rock and rollers
to take to the stage. Backyard
Babies have two support
bands ready to unleash onto
the excited crowd. The first
band, Junkstars, a punk rock
‘n’ roll trio from Stockholm,
Sweden have the riffs and
beats in line to get the crowd
revved up for the show. With
heaps of energy they churn
out their music and treat the
crowd to tracks from their lat-
est album ‘This Means War’.
All girl band Heavy Tiger, also
from Stockholm, are the sec-
ond band onstage. The girls’
raw energy fills the room as
the trio spring into action
wearing matching red jump-
suits reminiscent of The Run-
aways. If you put Bowie, Thin
Lizzy, Crucified Barbara, Thin
Lizzy and a pinch of Joan Jett
in a blender then this is just a
little taste of how Heavy Tiger
sound. The trio are a real
crowd pleaser to lead into the
main act, Backyard Babies.
As the audience’s appetite
grows for the band’s return to
Berlin the lights finally snap
down and the red siren-like
lights begin. The fans are in
for a true rock ‘n’ roll treat as
Backyard Babies sway be-
tween old songs and new. In-
troducing songs from the new
album, we get ‘Th1rt3en Or
Nothing’, ‘Piracy’, ‘Never Fin-
ish Anythi’, ‘Bloody Tears’, but
also going back to their roots
with some real crowd
pleasers. The crowd goes wild
as the intro to ‘Minus Celsius’
rings out. The band also mix in
some more acoustic fun with
‘Roads’ and have some more
catchy songs lined up - ‘High-
lights’ and ‘Heaven 2.9’. It’s an
amazing vibe in the Columbia
Halle, which is only high-
lighted further by drummer
Peder Carlsson often beaming
with happiness during the set.
The set finishes with ‘Total
13’‘s catchy, raw-energy-filled
‘Look At You’. Backyard Ba-
bies definitely have returned.
