                 Eatin’ Ain’t Cheatin’ NESTLÉ KITKAT

It’s taken a while, but we’ve finally tried the vegan KitKat. This originally pre-
miered in Sainsbury’s a year or two ago, although is now on sale in more locations,
including Tesco, where the bar costs 90p for 41.5g. While it’s 20p more than the
regular milk chocolate bar, it’s definitely worth it, as the plant-based option is made
from a smooth, rice-based milk alternative. The four crispy wafer fingers are covered
with couverture chocolate (67%), and, while the packaging says ‘May contain milk’
in the top corner, that is a disclaimer so that anyone with a milk allergy can steer
clear of the bars, due to the vegan KitKats being produced in the same factory as
                non-vegan bars.
We found the bars tasted the same as the old KitKats that we used to eat before
being vegan - although we’ve been vegan for over 20 years, so it’s been a while
since we’ve had one. It’s great that Nestlé have now produced a cruelty-free KitKat
as demand for vegan food is rising thanks to the impact of Veganuary and more
and more people becoming vegan and wanting vegan options. We also spotted the
vegan KitKats in the Whistlestop shop at Sheffield train station, and they can be in-
cluded in a meal deal. Also, did you know that the vegan KitKat delivers an 18%
lower carbon footprint than a standard KitKat bar - making them not just kinder to
animals, but kinder to the environment too.
