After a half-hour set by Call Me Amour, fronted by ex-Yashin vocalist Harry Radford, the Michigan-based five-piece open
with the powerful ‘Paranoid (Crash & Burn)’ from ‘Skeletons’, before familiar favourite ‘Deal With The Devil’. What they soon
discover is that the audience is full of diehard Pop Evil fans, who are eager and excited to have the American band back on
UK territory. From the very first minute, it looks like being a glorious night for both fans and the band. Pop Evil’s energetic
hard rock quickly ignites the crowd.
Although there’s a slight technical difficulty after third song, ‘Let The Chaos Reign’ – chaos does unfortunately reign.
After a minute or two of deliberation, Leigh Kakaty tells the crowd, “When there are technical difficulties, you guys get some
extra music.” An acoustic version of ‘100 In A 55’ is performed, while issues are dealt with. The band are then back in full
force for ‘Circles’, which begins with relentless riffing. Likewise, ‘Dead Reckoning’ is equally uncompromising and hard-
hitting. With another powerhouse, ‘Who Will We Become’, plus ‘Eye Of The Storm’ and the radio-friendly title track ‘Skeletons’,
the UK are being treated to a lot of songs from the new album, although the band also shine a light on past material with
‘Waking Lions’ and the heart-wrenching ‘Torn To Pieces’.
