It's easy to see what Toby brings to this outfit. As
one of Britain’s longest serving stars of rock, the expe-
rience of the game he has is obvious to all and it is es-
pecially apparent when the band endure a few technical
woes. The following day, the band thank those on hand
for their patience while dealing with ‘numerous’ issues,
but the only obvious one is a sound problem during
‘Crush’, but rather than show any sign of panic they
calmly press ahead in full confidence that their team will
rectify it immediately, which they do in perfect time for
the song’s kick-ass instrumental.
And this is one of just a number of highlights during
the show and it’s no wonder why, given the impressive
arsenal of songs the band has quickly amassed into
their CV. Aided by bassist Nic Wastell, who stomps up
and down the stage non-stop throughout the show in
true showman-like fashion, while sharp dressed Phil
Martini not so quietly goes about his business behind
the drums and Sam Wood, who offers another glimpse
into why he could be the next legendary guitarist of our
generation, they tear through an outstanding 18-track
set, which offers generous portions of each of their
three albums.
It's not just about the music either; Toby brings an-
other side to the show throughout the evening with wel-
come insights into the new music and how they were
created and their meaning, which is both welcome and
informative and these little details make the songs all
the more enjoyable and it’s a talent many would benefit
from adopting.
The fact that none of the night feels like a chore is
a testament to all of the bands, their songs and talents
and as soon as it’s all said and done you can feel the
audience is already looking forward to more of the
same down the line and that is the biggest triumph of
all.
