Someone wants biscuits
Sleeping George, the pig
A few weeks later, FARS announced a NovemBAA Open Day where you
could buy tickets to visit in 2-hour slots. So, we went again, this time with
Black Velvet contributors Sam and Penny. We were all told we could bring
our own Rich Tea biscuits to feed the sheep. Sam and Penny were not ex-
pecting the sheep to get so animated when they got their biscuits out!
The Open Day raised £4,000 in total - although it costs £90,000 a year to
run FARS. The sanctuary never makes a profit, investing everything back into
their animals. Visit their website for more information, follow them on Insta-
gram at @FARS_sanctuary, check their Amazon wishlist out, peruse their
merchandise and maybe we’ll see you at the next Open Day - whenever that
may be. Don’t forget your biscuits!

Well done singer Will Young for joining Camp
Beagle in Cambridgeshire in November to stand
up against animal testing and animal cruelty.
Camp Beagle is a protest camp outside MBR
Acres in Cambridgeshire. MBR breed puppies,
which are then taken to an animal testing labora-
tory to be tested on. Activists have been camping
at the gates of the facility since June after two ac-
tivists, Polly and Beth, deciding not to go home
following a demo at MBR Acres. Tents were put
up near the gates with activists standing with plac-
ards and banners every day since then. They
have watched puppies being driven out of the site
as they are taken to a laboratory to be tested on.
The group of activists of the grass roots cam-
paign welcome anyone to join them. You can find MBR say they have been ‘supplying animals
out more by following their Instagram @campbea- for laboratory testing’ for 75 years and breed 2000

Eatin’ Ain’t Cheatin’
BEAR & BEE
SWEET CO.
Aside from Christmas, December also happens to be my (Shari) birthday,
and this year a friend gave me some Bear & Bee Vegan Sweets. While I’m try-
ing to cut down on sugary sweets, of course I had to eat them! These sweets
are yummy! The bag I received was a pick ‘n’ mix featuring a variety of their
different sweets; there were some sour dummies, a fizzy belt (which I quickly
ate first), giant strawberries, cherries, rockets, spaceships and more. Looking
on their website, they also sell fizzy dracula teeth, liquorice mixes, strawberry
pencils, soft foam tutti fruttis, cola belts, apple belts, fizzy bubblegum, cola bot-
tles and more. Prices start at £2.50, with some bags costing £3, £4 or £6.
They’re all vegan - with no gelatine (crushed animal bones) inside - which most
non-vegan sweets include.
Bear & Bee Sweet Company began in Beeston, near Nottingham, in 2017.
