VEGAN BEAUTY
COSMETICS
egan Beauty Cosmetics is the brain-
Vchild of Effiena Mesquitta, who is
from Birmingham but currently located in
Leeds (where she is studying a masters at
University). She started out manufacturing
nail polish before branching out into bath
bombs, mani and pedi bombs. Vegan Beauty
Cosmetics are bespoke cosmetics and
Effiena has created SOS castor oil face and
lip gloss, mascara and breastfeeding balm.
Her bespoke bath bombs include letters and
numbers – you can choose to buy a full
name’s worth of lettered bath bombs – which
would make a fantastic gift for a friend or rel-
ative. Since Black Velvet is celebrating its
100th issue, we got BV100 made up! We
think these numbers are perfect for birthday
or anniversary celebrations. You can also
choose the fragrance used.
Effiena has created an array of different
bath bombs, most of which you can find pic-
tured on the @veganbeautycosmetics Insta-
gram page. She has produced star bath
bombs with a warm gingerbread fragrance,
topped with biodegradable glitter, foaming
alien heads for Halloween, colourful shells
and pineapples with tropical vibes, and
lavender scented hearts with rose petals.
She has also made gender reveal bombs.
Effiena says she began making her own
handmade cosmetics five years ago as, “I
wanted to create something different and
give the chance for people to create their
own cosmetics that are non-toxic and cru-
elty-free.” Vegan Beauty Cosmetics are Peta
approved and 10-free.
The lettered bath bombs we got smelt
minty and were simply divine. They’re a good
size too. They delightfully fizzed and foamed
in the bath and made bathtime a real, and
very colourful, treat. The bath bombs are
heavily pigmented and our purply bombs
turned our bath water into a deep, gothic pur-
ple. After bathing, our skin felt soft and
smooth.
The nail polish comes in a large range of
colours – some matte, some glittery, and
everything from black to purple to pink to
blue. Some have interesting names such as
SeaWorld (we think it’s much better to get
one of these SeaWorlds than visit the cruel
SeaWorld captivity centre!), Frozen and
Witch Twitch. The 10ml nail polishes are
usually £5 each, although occasionally the
website has a ‘buy 2 get 1 free’ offer on.
